Would I need another thru hull with a strainer or could the one unit supply both pumps?

Unfortunately yes it would need it's own water supply & related components...Also another pump relay & breaker for that in the main panel since both pumps would be supplying 2 systems...The breaker would not be imperative since you could supply one of the relays with one of the salon unit breakers...You would just need to know that, That breaker would need to be on even if you only wanted to run one unit in the salon....Ocean Yacht has done this for years.

But It's still cheaper than switching to Split systems, and you would gain the advantage of not having the whole boat without A/C if one pump, relay, or strainer had a problem.

Another advantage would be that both pumps would be smaller, of the magnetic drive type with no shaft seal, and a non corrosive head or impeller...Less maintenance there too...

This upgrade would likely pay for itself pretty quickly in reduced maintenance costs...
